• Safety, supervision and consistency of care

• Parent-child interactions and daily routines

• Emotional warmth and responsiveness

• The parent’s understanding of the child’s needs

• The parent’s response to advice, guidance and support

• Parenting strengths, areas of concern and identified risks

The assessment process is determined by the individual referral and may include:

• Observation of day-to-day parenting

• Direct work with the parent

• Review of relevant records and background information

• Consultation with professionals involved with the family

• Ongoing review of progress during the assessment period

A comprehensive report is prepared in accordance with the agreed instructions. It sets out the evidence considered, provides an analysis of parenting capacity and presents clear conclusions and recommendations for the commissioner or court.
